Klein's Camp sits on the edge of the Kuka Hills, inside a 10,000 hectare (24,700 acre) wildlife concession leased from Maasai landlords. The land borders Serengeti National Park and the valley separating it from the Masai Mara National Reserve, and because it operates as a private concession rather than inside the park boundary, &Beyond vehicles have it largely to themselves. Guests can go out after dark on night drives, something not permitted inside the national park, and walk on foot across open ground away from roads.
The camp itself holds ten cottages and one Family Cottage, made up of two cottages joined by an interleading walkway. Guest areas are built in stone, with open fireplaces, a furnished bar and sitting area, and deep leather armchairs on stone floors. Each cottage has its own verandah looking down over the hills. Meals are taken in the main dining area or outdoors on the concession, using vegetables grown in the camp's own garden, and each stay includes a private butler and the use of Swarovski binoculars.
Maasai communities, from whom the concession land is leased, are part of daily life here rather than a side excursion. Guests visit a boma near the camp and interact with Maasai people as a matter of course. &Beyond reports that 92% of camp staff are drawn from this community, and the operator has put money into a local clinic and schools, cut out plastic water bottles on site and sources its kitchen produce from the camp's own garden. Klein's Camp received a Sustainable Tourism award from the Tanzania Tourist Board in 2014 and was named one of National Geographic's 50 Best Eco Lodges in 2011.
