The Jahazi Suite forms part of Mara Plains Camp, set within the Olare Motorogi Conservancy on the northern boundary of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The suite is built entirely under canvas and raised on decking made from recycled railway sleepers, positioned under the tree canopy so that wildlife can pass close by without disturbance. Guests enter through carved, ancient Zanzibari doors into a central lounge and dining area, flanked by two bedrooms, each fitted with a walk-through wardrobe, double basins, a private toilet, an indoor shower and a brass bath. Over-bed air conditioning and ceiling fans sit above the beds, and each room has a writing desk.
A private wrap-around verandah leads from the central area to a private swimming pool, shaded by the sweeping canvas roof and surrounding trees. Guests booking the suite are assigned a private butler, a safari drive vehicle and a wildlife guide for the length of their stay, and the suite is booked for a single party rather than shared with other guests. A pair of binoculars and a professional camera with a selection of lenses are kept in the suite for guest use, and photographs and footage taken during the stay are later shared through a private online gallery.
The Olare Motorogi Conservancy has the lowest vehicle density in the Maasai Mara region and the highest concentration of big cats anywhere in Africa, according to the property. The Maasai Mara is home to some 300 bird species, and larger mammals are known to pass through the camp after dark, watched over at night by Maasai warriors. There is no fixed schedule for meals or activities, with the day shaped instead by what guests want to see and do. A short walk from the suite, the bush boutique at the main Mara Plains Camp area is open to guests. The Jahazi Suite is a Relais & Châteaux member, one of the Great Plains Conservation Réserve-Collection camps in Kenya that hold this status.
