The Riviera Maya EDITION opened on 27 February 2024 at Kanai, a 620-acre nature reserve on the coast south of Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The hotel sits behind two miles of white-sand beach and a stretch of mangrove forest, with interiors designed by Ian Schrager. It holds 182 guest rooms and suites, including The Sky Villa, described by the brand as the largest penthouse suite in North America. Some rooms include private terraces with plunge pools.
Food and drink runs across five venues. Kitchen at EDITION, from chef Paco Ruano, serves dishes drawn from across Mexico's regions, open for breakfast daily and dinner Wednesday to Monday. Ki'is, open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings, draws on Guadalajara and Pacific coast flavours with a Mayan accent. So'ol Beach Club, from chef Tomas Bermudez, serves Mexican coastal food by day from 11am to 6pm. Pool Bar and Lobby Bar complete the line-up, the latter built around three-storey, floor-to-ceiling windows. The Spa takes its architecture from the region's cenotes, with hydrotherapy pools, a private outdoor pool, a Turkish Hamman, a steam and chromotherapy treatment bed and six private indoor-outdoor treatment rooms. A Technogym fitness centre with a Spin Studio operates around the clock.
Meeting and event space includes a ballroom and a series of venues with 18-foot ceilings, natural light and indoor-outdoor settings. Cancun International Airport lies 29 miles away, a drive of about 40 minutes along Highway 307 to the gated Kanai development.
