The Riviera Nayarit runs north from Puerto Vallarta along the Pacific, with the Punta Mita headland at its southern end holding the best known resorts and two ocean golf courses. The coast north of it is wilder, with jungle coming down to the beach and surf towns like Sayulita. Humpback whales are in the bay from December to March. The dry season runs November to May; the summer and early autumn are hot, humid and the wettest part of the year.
