Amanjiwo opened in 1997, taking its name from Sanskrit-derived words for peace and soul, chosen for the serenity of its setting in Central Java's heartland. The resort overlooks Borobudur, the largest Buddhist temple complex in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, now fully reopen and still without the crowds who visit later in the day. From a lofty Rotunda, Amanjiwo cascades down the hillside to a pool below.

Accommodation is arranged in two graceful crescents fanning out from the Rotunda: the Pavilions, each opening onto a private terrace with views across the surrounding landscape. A separate two-bedroom Villa offers more expansive private living space, with its own pool and uninterrupted views of Borobudur.

Guests can join local monks for the Pradakshina, a meditative circular walk around Borobudur performed each morning at sunrise, or take up the three-night Cultural Trails itinerary, choosing from guided temple tours, hikes, blessing ceremonies and local dining experiences. The spa draws on Javanese healing and beauty rituals handed down through generations. Dining is served at The Restaurant & Bar, The Pool Terrace and Joglo Sawah. Amanjiwo is a 90-minute drive from Yogyakarta International Airport and two hours from Solo airport, with complimentary car transfers provided.
