Mara Toto Tree Camp is built along the Ntiakitiak River in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, raised into the canopy of ebony trees that line the water. Four tented suites sit on elevated wooden decks, holding a maximum of eight guests in total, which makes it one of the more intimate camps in the Great Plains Conservation Réserve-Collection.
Each suite is built from canvas and wood and includes a private lounge, an outdoor verandah, light weights, a yoga mat and a stationary exercise bicycle. The en-suite bathroom has double vanity basins, a deep copper bath and a large indoor shower. From the raised decks, guests look directly over the surrounding bush, with wildlife passing below the canopy. A complimentary professional camera set and lenses are provided for the stay, and the camp's team downloads images and video for guests to take home at no extra cost.
Leopards are often seen from the camp itself and lions can be heard after dark. Game drives run in open vehicles with professional guides, with access to both the Maasai Mara National Reserve and the private Mara North Conservancy. The camp sits well for two migrations: the annual southern migration of over one million animals from the Serengeti, and the green season migration, when more than 100,000 zebra and wildebeest arrive from the Loita Plains to the northwest. Guests can also take an early morning birding walk along the riverine forest, view the Mara from a hot-air balloon, or book a massage on their deck while listening to hippos in the river below. A kitchen guests can tour, a spa and the Great Plains Safari Boutique are all part of the camp.
