نظرة عامة

Mpala Jena Private Villas are two three-bedroom villas set on the banks of the Zambezi River, within Zimbabwe's Zambezi National Park, about five kilometres upstream from the main Mpala Jena camp. The design, by architects Craig Hayman and Hannah Charlton with interiors by Tracy Kelly, departs from the typical safari camp. It draws in part on the architecture of Puglia in southern Italy: rounded forms, hand-hewn stone arches, thick stone walls and high thatched roofs. At one villa a tree grows directly through the roof, left in place rather than worked around. Thick walls keep the interiors cool in summer and warm in winter, and large doors open the living areas to the surrounding bush.

Each villa has three riverfront suites, accommodating up to six guests in total. Suites are positioned for privacy but remain connected to the villa's shared living spaces, each with its own seating area, walk-through closet and an ensuite bathroom built to face outward, including showers with views towards the river and open sky. Every villa also has its own main lounge and dining area, swimming pool, kitchen and chef, along with a private butler, river guide, walking guide and safari vehicle, making each one a self-contained home on the Zambezi for a family or group travelling together.

Days are not scheduled. Guests can take a private safari drive in search of elephant, buffalo, lion, hyena, antelope and the area's birdlife, go out on a guided walk, or head onto the Zambezi by motorised boat, with water activities dependent on seasonal river levels. Catch-and-release tiger fishing is available and is generally best between June and December. A scheduled half-day tour of Victoria Falls can be arranged, and scenic helicopter flights over the Falls are available at an additional cost. Mpala Jena itself is not owned or managed by Great Plains Conservation, which holds the sales, marketing and reservations arrangement for the property; Mpala Jena's own staff care for guests on site. The villas sit within the Zambezi National Park, and Mpala Jena supports the Zambezi Parks Support Foundation, which funds anti-poaching scouts and has received a donated riverboat for patrols of the park's waterways.
