OMO5 Hakodate

OMO5 Hakodate occupies a single building a five-minute walk from Hakodate Station. The hotel underwent a renovation that drew on the port city's history as an international trading post, from the arrival of Commodore Perry to the building of Fort Goryokaku and the Hakodate Magistrate's Office. That history shows up most clearly in the dining room, where an open kitchen modelled on the star-shaped fort sits at the centre of the room, and in decorative details such as squid-dyed art boards and fishing-net lights. The renovation and its design were recognised with the 2026 Good Design Award, the fourth design award the property has received.

Breakfast is built around what the hotel calls the Seafood Five Stars: a buffet of seafood bowls assembled to order, charcoal-grilled seafood and vegetables, kelp-based shio ramen, two kinds of sushi, and Hakodate's own rice-stuffed squid, ikameshi. In winter, a limited-run Winter Squid Festival adds a freshly made ikameshi dish and an ikameshi ice cream at the OMO Cafe & Bar. The cafe and bar, open to hotel guests, serves specialty coffee by day and a shiokara-and-beer set after dark, alongside a retail corner of Hokkaido specialties open around the clock. After a soak in the onsen, guests can join the Hakodate Night View Time, a guest-only evening in the lounge with live organ music. A free OMO shuttle bus loops around the city's main sights, including the Mount Hakodate Ropeway and the Red Brick Warehouses, running from morning to night.

Rooms take between one and four guests, and children aged six and under may share a bed within the stated capacity. Check-in is from 3:00 PM and check-out by 11:00 AM. Pets are allowed under the hotel's pet room terms, which set out requirements for vaccination and behaviour. The hotel has 28 on-site parking spaces on a first-come basis, and EV charging was scheduled for installation. Wi-Fi is free throughout the rooms and in some public areas, and complimentary lockers in three sizes are available before and after check-in.
