Categories range from the queen-sized Natur Grandlit through to the Matterhorn Suite, the largest, with king and queen bedrooms and two marble bathrooms. Two apartments, Apartment 600 and Apartment 601, sit 100 metres away in the Alpenresidenz Augstkumme building. Dining runs across three restaurants: Ristorante Al Bosco for Italian and Swiss lunches and dinners, Restaurant Alexandre for breakfast and dinner built on Swiss and local ingredients, and Restaurant Walliserkeller, an alpine dining room open for dinner in winter only. Bar 2'222m and the Vinothek wine cellar complete the list. Spa 2'222m, which the property describes as Europe's highest spa, has indoor and outdoor pools, a saline grotto, whirlpool, steam baths and two saunas, and is kept exclusively for hotel guests.
The resort's groundwork was laid in 1878 by hotelier Alexander Seiler, who opened it as a summer retreat. The present operation was planned from 1998 under Hans-Jörg and Claudia Walther, whose family still runs it. Families are looked after with a kindergarten, an outdoor playground, a playroom and family-friendly suites such as the Monte Rosa Suite, which has separate bathrooms and two bunk beds for children. The resort opens for three set periods a year, closing between seasons, and the page describes it as a five-star hotel.
