The Oberoi, Mauritius occupies a stretch of Turtle Bay in Balaclava, on the island's northwest coast, roughly 20 kilometres from Port Louis and about an hour's drive from Mauritius airport, 60 kilometres away. Turtle Bay is a protected marine park, and the resort's 80,937 square metres, around 20 acres, are laid out in sub-tropical gardens running down to the shore.
Accommodation is entirely in thatched villas and pavilions, finished with handmade furniture from organic materials and beds dressed in natural fabrics. Rooms range from the two Luxury Pavilions, each 70 square metres with a king bed and sunken marble bathtub, up to the Three Bedroom Royal Ocean View Villa, which spans 790 square metres in total with two king bedrooms, a twin room, three ensuite bathrooms and its own 16 metre pool. Several villas include private pools between 8 and 16 metres long, along with thatched outdoor dining pavilions.
Dining spans five venues: The Restaurant, for Creole, international and Indian menus; The Gunpowder Room, set in an 18th century French colonial building and open for adults only on Tuesdays and Thursdays; The Herb Trail, a communal, al fresco set menu served from an underground fire pit; The Bar, with live piano music each evening; and On the Rocks, built on volcanic rock above the sea. The Oberoi Spa offers open-air treatment rooms for couples, and the resort works with a PADI centre covering reef dives, night dives and underwater photography. Two outdoor pools, one reserved for adults, sit alongside a gym open from 8am to 8pm.
