Bandaisan Onsen Hotel sits at the foot of Mt Bandai in Bandai-machi, Fukushima, with hot springs drawn from the mountain and direct access to the NEKOMA Mountain ski slopes.
Bandaisan Onsen Hotel stands at the foot of Mt Bandai in Bandai-machi, in Fukushima's Aizu region, close to Lake Inawashiro. Its onsen draws water directly from the mountain. In winter, the hotel connects directly to NEKOMA Mountain, one of Japan's largest ski resorts, with courses for all levels and views of Mt Bandai, Lake Inawashiro and frost-covered trees. Skiers and snowboarders are offered a late checkout of 2:00 PM, a Wax Bar and community spaces.
Dining draws on Aizu's food culture. The Aizu SAKE Bar in the lobby stocks sake from about thirty breweries across the region, selected by staff with sake expertise. Dinner is served as a buffet at kisse kisse, with dishes prepared in a live kitchen, including soba noodles, the local kozuyu soup and dishes built on Aizu's fermentation traditions of miso and koji. Breakfast changes with the season: Japanese and Western dishes plus local specialities such as asara and manju no tempura from spring to autumn, and a choice of Western or Japanese Wappa Meshi plates in winter. The affiliated restaurant Aizu Yushoku Takazen serves Aizu cuisine in kaiseki style, closed on Thursdays. During winter, breakfast can be swapped for lunch at The Rider's, Bandai Shokudo or Nekoma Shokudo, all on NEKOMA Mountain.
The hotel has 149 rooms in a single building, taking between one and five guests. Room categories include the Aizu Modern Suite, limited to two rooms, with a ground-floor living room and a sake cellar; the Semi-suite, a maisonette-style room for groups of up to five; and the Maisonette room, with a living room on the first floor and bedroom above, and a view of Mt Bandai. Facilities include two restaurants, two café or lounge spaces, a spa, a pool, an onsen and a public bath. Pets are permitted in designated dog-friendly rooms, up to two dogs under 20kg each. Parking is free, with 238 outdoor spaces and EV charging. At night, guests can listen to folk song performances in the Akabeko-zukushi space, a nod to the area's streets that have stood since the Edo period.
