Four Seasons Hotel Firenze occupies two Renaissance palazzos on Borgo Pinti, a short walk from the Duomo, the Accademia and the Uffizi Gallery. Palazzo della Gherardesca dates to 1473, built by Bartolomeo Scala, and later passed through Medici and Della Gherardesca ownership. Palazzo del Nero is a 16th-century addition, once a convent, now home to 36 of the property's rooms and suites. Together the two buildings hold 121 accommodations: 76 hotel rooms and 45 suites, decorated by Pierre-Yves Rochon with frescoed ceilings, period furniture and Capodimonte Maioliche-style ceramic flooring in the historical suites.
The hotel borders the Giardino della Gherardesca, a 4.45-hectare garden planted in the 15th century and kept private for centuries. Statues, fountains and a small Ionic temple sit among centuries-old trees, alongside an outdoor pool and a year-round heated whirlpool. The Spa covers 790 square metres within the garden, with ten treatment rooms, a sauna, a steam bath, a Fitness Centre and a private Spa Suite for couples with two treatment beds and a stone bathtub.
Dining runs from Il Palagio, the hotel's Michelin-starred restaurant serving Florentine and contemporary Italian food with terrace seating in the warmer months, to Atrium Bar for cocktails and afternoon tea, Bar Berni for vermouth, and Al Fresco by the pool for Josper-grilled meats and pizza in summer. Onde, a seafood restaurant, is currently closed. Florence airport is 15 kilometres away, about 20 minutes by car.
