Four Seasons Resort Hualalai sits on Ka'upulehu Drive in Kailua-Kona, on the Kona coast of Hawaii Island, where black-lava grounds meet white-sand beach and the Pacific. The resort holds 249 guest rooms, suites and villas, all recently renovated with updated finishes and furnishings while keeping the Hawaiian architecture of the original two-storey bungalows. A new oceanfront bungalow has added six guest rooms, including a suite with its own private pool.
Accommodation ranges from Guest Rooms of 59 square metres to the Hawaii Loa Presidential Villa, a two-storey oceanfront bungalow of up to 488 square metres that sleeps up to ten guests. Two further villas, Makaloa and Ho'onanea, sit beside Waiakauhi Pond and the beach respectively, each with a private pool, spa and outdoor living space on the lanai. Seven Specialty Suites, among them Kou, Kailani and the newly built Kahuwai, add open-plan living and dining areas for guests travelling as a group.
Dining runs to five on-site restaurants under Executive Chef Richard Polhemus, including the sushi lounge NOIO with its twelve-seat ocean-view omakase counter, the Coastal Italian restaurant Beach Tree by the sand, and Miller & Lux Hualalai, a steakhouse from chef Tyler Florence. Guests also have use of seven pools, King's Pond, a 1.8-million-gallon swimmable aquarium with about 1,000 tropical fish and its own Marine Activity Center, and an 18-hole golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus that runs from lava fields to the ocean. The spa opens daily from 8am to 7pm, with a salon from 10am to 6pm, and is reserved for resort guests and club members.
