نظرة عامة

KAI Nagato sits by the Otozure river in Nagato Yumoto, a hot spring town in Yamaguchi prefecture. The ryokan is modeled on 17th-century accommodations built to host feudal lords, and the riverside setting gives it a walkable position close to the historic streets of Nagato Yumoto, with a pedestrian path, decks and benches running alongside the water.

The onsen draws on Nagato Yumoto Hot Spring, water said to have been discovered through a message from the gods. It is highly alkaline and flows continuously into the baths, rather than being recirculated. Dinner follows the kaiseki format and draws on Yamaguchi's position between the ocean on three sides, which brings seafood and citrus into the seasonal menu. Dinner is served at 5:30pm or 7:30pm in semi-private dining rooms suited to couples, extended families and small groups, and breakfast runs from 7:00am to 9:00am with a choice of Japanese or Western style, the latter unavailable from January 1st to 3rd. Vegetarian kaiseki and vegetarian breakfast are offered on request, prepared free of the eight major allergens, and children aged four to eleven have their own Japanese platters built around ingredients such as beans, sesame and seaweed.

The ryokan has 40 rooms with occupancy for one to four guests. KAI Signature Rooms are furnished with traditionally crafted ceramic, papercraft, glass and lacquer work and look out over the local area. Facilities include a restaurant, three café or lounge spaces, a spa and massage room, two onsen, a public bath, a playroom, a pool and a meeting room. The property is smoke-free apart from a designated smoking area, pets are allowed, and private parking with EV charging is available without reservation. It is roughly 60 minutes by car from Shinyamaguchi Station, and bookings are currently accepted only from within Japan.
