Pamushana Lodge stands on a sandstone ridge above the Malilangwe Dam, in the remote southeast of Zimbabwe. Its eight suites, each with a private plunge pool, draw on the tribal history of ancient Zimbabwe for their design, with trees growing through the architecture and decks that shift in use through the day, gathering spots in the morning, fireside pauses at night.

The main lodge is arranged across staggered, interlinked platforms that open onto the dam below. A cliff-top fire pit and bar-deli serve as the setting for alfresco dining, and a communal swimming pool complements the plunge pool in each suite.

The lodge sits within the 115,000-acre Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve, managed by the Malilangwe Trust across 38 habitats and ecological zones. Access to the reserve is limited to lodge guests, who can take twice-daily game drives, bush walks, sundowner boat cruises and visits to rock art sites. The Trust reintroduced 28 black and 15 white rhinos to the reserve in 1998, a programme that has since supplied rhinos for restocking other reserves, and it also runs an Environmental Education Centre and a nutrition programme that provides a meal to 20,000 children before school each day.
