Umaid Bhawan Palace stands on a hill above Jodhpur's Blue City, built in golden sandstone and set amid 26 acres of gardens. The palace remains an active royal residence, with members of the family still living in their own wing. Its lobby rises to a 45-metre dome, and a subterranean pool, once built for the Maharaja and known as the Zodiac Pool, sits below the courtyards and arcades that lead out to the Baradari Lawns.
The hotel holds 71 rooms and suites, 26 rooms and 45 suites, each finished in Art Deco style with views over the gardens, the city or Mehrangarh Fort. The Maharaja Suite, once the Maharaja's personal quarters, and the Maharani Suite, the palace's largest, both include private terraces and rooms once used by the royal family. Smaller Palace Rooms and Historical Suites occupy other wings of the building, each with its own garden or courtyard outlook.
Two restaurants and a bar serve the property: Risala for Indian and regional Rajasthani cooking drawn from the Maharajas' kitchens, Pillars for an open-air breakfast on a colonnaded terrace, and the Trophy Bar, decorated with hunting artefacts, for drinks through the day. The J Wellness Circle spa offers Indian and international therapies, including treatments developed for the royal family. Jodhpur airport is about 15 minutes away by car, and Mehrangarh Fort, Ghanta Ghar and the Toorji Ka Jhalra stepwell are all within easy reach of the palace.
