Benguerra Island lies within Mozambique's Bazaruto Archipelago National Park, off the southern coast. &Beyond's lodge sits between indigenous forest and a stretch of white sand, facing a protected channel of the Indian Ocean. The setting combines reef diving, sailing and quiet beach days with the rhythms of a small Mozambican island.
Thirteen rooms are arranged between the forest and the shoreline, each with a private plunge pool and a view of the ocean. Ten Casinhas offer slightly larger interiors with a Portuguese-influenced style, while the Cabanas sit close to the water with shaded outdoor living areas. The three-bedroom Casa Familia, at 170 square metres, is built for families or small groups travelling together, with its own stretch of beach. Rates are all-inclusive, covering three meals a day, house wines, local spirits and beers, laundry and transfers to and from the lodge's helipad.
Days on Benguerra can be built around the water or away from it. Included activities cover horseback riding, sea kayaking, paddle boarding, a sunset dhow cruise, a scheduled snorkelling trip and a castaway picnic. A fully equipped PADI dive centre operates from the lodge for guests wanting to explore the surrounding reefs, and deep-sea fishing, whale watching between June and December, wellness treatments and scenic helicopter flights can be arranged at an additional cost.
