Luang Prabang

Monks at dawn, French colonial houses and the Mekong at the end of the street.

Our notes

Luang Prabang is a small World Heritage town at the meeting of the Mekong and the Nam Khan, with thirty odd temples, a night market and a pace that is the whole point. The alms giving at dawn is a genuine religious practice rather than a performance and should be watched from a distance or not at all. The hotels are small and often in restored French colonial houses. Kuang Si falls and a slow boat on the Mekong fill the days. November to February is cool and dry.
