Madeira

Levada walks, cliff top hotels and a spring climate for most of the year.

Our notes

Madeira sits in the Atlantic six hundred kilometres off Morocco and has been a winter retreat since the British discovered it two centuries ago. The interior is a walker's island of laurel forest and irrigation channels called levadas; the coast is dramatic cliffs and a handful of long established hotels above Funchal, joined lately by design hotels on the north shore. Temperatures rarely leave the high teens and low twenties. We arrange guided walks, a day on the sister island of Porto Santo, and the tables at Funchal's best restaurants.
