Norwegian Fjords
Fjord hotels reached by boat, midnight light in June and roads that were built for the view.
Our notes
The fjords of western Norway are best approached slowly: a night in Bergen, then the Sognefjord and Hardangerfjord by boat and car with a stop at a historic hotel that has stood on the water since the 1800s. June brings twenty hours of daylight and waterfalls at full volume; September brings colour and empty roads. We arrange the car, the ferries, a rib boat on the Nærøyfjord and the tables in Bergen's fish restaurants. Add Lofoten for a longer trip, or the Arctic in winter for the northern lights.
