Sanya & Hainan

Hainan is a large tropical island off the south coast of China, and Sanya at its southern tip is where the resorts are, spread across a series of bays. It is a domestic holiday destination first, which shapes the season: it is busiest over Chinese New Year and the October holiday, and quietest in the wet months of the late summer and early autumn. The winter, when the rest of the country is cold, is the reason it exists.
