Our notes
Shanghai reads as two cities facing each other across the Huangpu: the colonial facades of the Bund on one bank and Pudong's towers on the other. The former French Concession, with its plane trees and lane houses, is where most people end up spending their evenings. The water towns south of the city are a day trip. Spring and autumn are the comfortable seasons; summer is hot and wet and the winter is damp and cold rather than freezing.
