Our notes
The Andaman coast of Thailand gives you the tropical trip at roughly half the price of the Maldives, with far more to do off the resort. Phuket's west coast has the established beach resorts; Phang Nga Bay to the north east has the drowned karst landscape you have seen in films and resorts reachable only by boat. Koh Yao Noi, in the middle of the bay, is our quiet recommendation. The dry season runs November to April. In the green season, May to October, rates fall by a third and the rain usually arrives as a single afternoon downpour.
