Hotel · Taketomi Island, Japan
On Taketomi Island, home to about 350 residents, 48 guest villas with coral-sand yards sit within the Yaeyama Islands off Okinawa.
Taketomi Island lies among the Yaeyama Islands off Okinawa and is home to roughly 350 people. HOSHINOYA Taketomi Island occupies 48 guest villas built to the island's own architectural guidelines, each with low stone fences and yards of white coral sand that echo the surrounding village. Living rooms are designed to draw in natural light and the island's cool breezes, and guests stay between one and three to a villa.
On site there are two restaurants, a café and lounge, a spa and massage room, a pool, an onsen and a public bath. Dining includes a seasonal French dinner service called Island Terroir, which draws on ingredients from across the Yaeyama Islands, alongside Okinawan breakfast options, an a la carte Okinawan dinner menu, a seasonal Harusa lunch built around local grains and Taketomi yam gnocchi, and a herbal hot pot delivered to guest rooms. A children's playroom and bed-sharing arrangements for under-12s are offered, and anniversary items such as cakes and flowers can be arranged on request.
The resort runs a shuttle bus between Taketomi Port and the property, timed to the ferry schedule, since there is no on-site parking or EV charging. Nearby, Nagomi Tower is a registered tangible cultural property of Japan, the Yonagunikejuutaku houses are nationally designated Important Cultural Properties, and Kondoi Beach is known locally for its white sand and cobalt-blue water. The Tanadui Festival, held on the island for around 600 years, is another point of local reference.
