Overview
In 1969, Manos and Nadia Psychas bought a stretch of cliff with cave dwellings and stables in the Perivolas area of Oia, on Santorini. Over the years they restored a cluster of 300-year-old caves, once homes to local fishermen and farmers, working with native craftsmen and the island's own stone. The result is a complex of 23 individual suites and villas built into the cliff above the caldera.
The architecture keeps to Santorini's traditional forms: vaulted ceilings pierced by skylights, whitewashed walls, beds built into alcoves, and low sofas. Every suite and villa has a furnished terrace facing the caldera, and some have private pools. There are no televisions in the rooms, a deliberate choice that leaves guests to the view and the quiet.
Perivolas sits a short walk from Oia village, with a private parking lot beside the property so guests can drive straight in. On site there is a restaurant serving Greek dishes, a spa, a 120-square-metre gym with a 25-metre lap pool, and a Pilates Allegro Tower for private sessions. Across the water on Thirassia, Perivolas Hideaway offers a separate private villa, once a 19th-century pumice mine, reachable only by boat.
