The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto occupies a site on the banks of the Kamogawa River in Nakagyo-ku, a plot that has drawn Japanese nobility since the seventeenth century. The hotel looks toward the Higashiyama mountains and holds 134 guest rooms and suites, each finished with Japanese motifs such as cherry blossom detailing and tatami elements. Check-in takes place over traditional Japanese tea, and 409 pieces of modern Japanese artwork are displayed through the public spaces. The Gion and Teramachi districts are within walking distance, and Kyoto City Hall Station on the Tozai subway line and Sanjo Station on the Keihan line are both close by.
Dining runs across four restaurants and bars. Mizuki brings together kaiseki, sushi, tempura and teppanyaki under one roof, including an eleven-metre sushi counter finished in Wajima lacquerware. La Locanda serves Italian food in a dining room of wood panelling and tatami mats, with private rooms inside the restored Ebisugawa-tei townhouse, built in 1908 for Denzaburo Fujita, founder of the Fujita industrial group. The Lobby Lounge, styled after a machi-ya townhouse, serves brunch and afternoon tea beside a waterfall terrace, and a boutique run with Pierre Hermé Paris supplies pastries across the property. Guests can also book Chef's Table by Katsuhito Inoue, an eight-seat kaiseki experience built around Kyoto's seventy-two micro-seasons.
Wellness facilities centre on La Prairie Spa, described by the hotel as the brand's first hotel spa in Asia, with seven treatment rooms, a private spa suite and a heated 20-metre indoor pool alongside a steam room and dry sauna. The fitness centre operates around the clock. The hotel hosts weddings on its riverside grounds, with a design concept that draws on Meiji-era architecture, and holds five spaces for meetings and events. Forbes Travel Guide has given the hotel its Five-Star rating for nine consecutive years, most recently for 2026.
