Beyond the ski resorts, Switzerland has a summer of lake steamers, mountain railways and grand hotels on the water at Lucerne, Geneva and Lugano. The Bernese Oberland at Gstaad and Interlaken works in both seasons, and the Glacier Express and the Jungfraujoch railway are genuinely worth the ticket. Everything runs to the minute, which makes a complicated itinerary simple. Summer is June to September; the ski season runs December to March.
