Overview

45 Park Lane sits on Park Lane, London W1K 1PN, in Mayfair, overlooking Hyde Park, a three-minute walk from the park itself. The building dates from the early 1960s, designed by Walter Gropius, founder of the Bauhaus school. Dorchester Collection acquired it in 2010 and appointed architect and interior designer Thierry Despont to convert it into a hotel, adding the horizontal aluminium fins that wrap the exterior. It opened as a Dorchester Collection hotel in September 2011. The hotel holds just 45 rooms and suites, including the Penthouse Terrace Suite, and every one faces Hyde Park, with higher floors looking out across London.

Rooms range from the 36 sqm Deluxe Room with its Stanhope Gate view to the three-bedroom Park Lane Suite at 171 sqm, which accommodates up to eight guests. Several rooms and suites have private balconies over Hyde Park, and the Penthouse Terrace Suite covers the entire top floor with 360-degree views, two bedrooms, two bathrooms and its own lift. All rooms include butler service, a scented bathroom range by Wildsmith, Bang & Olufsen entertainment systems and Italian marble bathrooms with double wash basins. Dining centres on CUT at 45 Park Lane, Wolfgang Puck's only London restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner daily alongside Damien Hirst's Diamond Dust Psalms series on the walls; chef Elliott Grover leads the kitchen. Sushi Kanesaka offers a Michelin-starred dining experience, and BAR 45 serves cocktails on Park Lane.

Below ground, the spa houses Park Lane's longest swimming pool, a hydro pool, sauna, steam room and a gym with Technogym equipment, reserved for hotel guests and residents of Mayfair Park Residences. Treatments are provided by La Prairie and by skincare specialist Dr Uliana Gout. The hotel has a contemporary art collection, including works by Damien Hirst and Sir Peter Blake, continuing a history that includes a period as a private residence visited by Noel Coward and T.E. Lawrence. Group bookings apply from six or more rooms, and up to two small dogs under 7kg are welcomed per room.
