Hotel · Aomori, Japan
Aomoriya sits in Misawa, Aomori, where paper floats from the Nebuta Matsuri decorate the grounds year-round and guests can try regional crafts and soak in five onsen baths.
Aomoriya stands in Misawa, a town in Aomori prefecture at Japan's northern tip, on 72 hectares across three buildings holding 236 rooms. The property is styled as a representation of rural Aomori life: horse-drawn carriages travel paths past traditional Japanese houses, while paper floats inspired by the Nebuta Matsuri fire festival decorate the grounds year-round, with flute and drum music marking out the festive mood.
Afternoons can be spent on regional crafts such as weaving and lacquerware decorating, followed by a locally inspired meal. Five onsen options are available, including an indoor bath scented with Hiba wood, an outdoor bath set beside a pond, and a foot bath that looks over the park. A spa and massage facility, a public bath, a pool and a playroom round out the property's wellness and family offerings.
Rooms draw on local materials and craftwork: the Hokko-Ringo room carries an apple motif, the Aomori Nebuta Room is decorated with paper sculptures and a ceiling painting inspired by the Nebuta festival, and the Azumashi room uses Yawata-Uma wooden horse charms and Nanbu Saki Ori weaving. Dining runs from the buffet restaurant Noresore Shokudo, which serves around 80 Japanese, Western and Chinese dishes, to the sake-focused bar Yottemare Sakaba and two lounges, Irori and Yawatauma. A shuttle connects Aomoriya with Misawa Station and Misawa Airport, and dog-friendly rooms accept up to two dogs under 20kg each.
