Overview

Nekajui Peninsula Papagayo, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, sits within Peninsula Papagayo, a 1,400-acre private destination on Guanacaste's Pacific coast surrounded by tropical dry forest. The name Nekajui is Chorotegan for "lush garden," honoring the indigenous tribe whose communities once lived on this land. Accommodations include guest rooms, one- to four-bedroom suites, open-air treetop tents with private plunge pools, and two- to five-bedroom residences built in a modern Guanacaste hacienda style with private terraces and infinity pools.

The resort has nine restaurants and bars. Puna, overseen by Chef Diego Muñoz, serves Peruvian cuisine with Costa Rican ingredients; Paruro, inside Puna, offers an Asian-Peruvian omakase with one seating nightly. Niri Beach Club serves Mediterranean dishes by the ocean, Café Rincón focuses on local coffee and cacao, and Casona Bar, Ámbar and Cooper's cover cocktails and lounge service at different times of day. Naku Wellness & Spa draws on Chorotega heritage and the Costa Rican herb juanilama, with a hydrothermal circuit of contrast pools, sauna and steam alongside ocean-facing treatment villas.

Golf, tennis, pickleball and padel are all on site: the private, 18-hole, par-72 Ocean Course was designed by Arnold Palmer and runs through 125 acres of old-growth forest and sea cliffs, while eight tennis courts, six pickleball courts and two padel courts are split between the resort and the adjoining Papagayo Park. Papagayo Explorers and SurfX run guided hikes, wildlife tours, ziplining and surf lessons, and Camp Nekajui occupies children aged four to twelve daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For larger groups, Villa Guayacan is a ten-bedroom private residence set above the coastline, suited to family gatherings or small weddings.
