Overview

Oirase Keiryu Hotel stands on the bank of the Oirase Gorge, inside Towada-Hachimantai National Park. It is described as the only resort hotel built directly on the shore of the gorge, a stretch of clear streams, moss-covered rocks and forest of deciduous broad-leaved trees. The landscape has been designated a special scenic beauty locale and a natural monument. The hotel has 181 rooms across two buildings on a 72-hectare site.

Guest rooms look over the moving water from the lobby, the terrace or the room itself. The Keiryu Suite Room, at around 120 square metres and sleeping up to six, has its own hot spring bath looking onto the stream and walls finished with real moss murals. The Twin Room with River View Indoor Bath, one of only four such rooms, has a private indoor onsen bath with the same outlook. The Japanese-style Room with River View keeps its interior plain, so the view through the large window remains the point of the room. An outdoor bath fed by hot springs from Mt. Hakkoda is open to all guests, set to overlook the stream.

Two restaurants serve the hotel. The French restaurant Sonore begins each evening with an aperitif taken looking over the stream at dusk, followed by a course menu built around the season. The buffet restaurant Aomori Ringo Kitchen builds its menu around the apples of Aomori, down to apple pies baked on site. A seasonal terrace breakfast runs along the stream in the warmer months, and a Frozen Waterfall Afternoon Tea runs in winter. Guests arrive by car, with free parking for 100 vehicles, or by the shuttle bus that connects the hotel to JR Hachinohe Station, Aomori Station and Aomoriya. Dogs are welcome in designated dog-friendly rooms, up to two per room.
