Overview

OMO5 Kyoto Sanjo stands on Sanjo Street in Nakagyo-ku, a stretch of Meiji and Taisho-era architecture now lined with cafes, tenugui towel shops and machiya storefronts. The Takase River runs alongside, known for its cherry blossoms, and Honno-ji Temple, the site of the Honnoji Incident where Oda Nobunaga died, stands nearby. The hotel is a two-minute walk from Exit 3 of Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae subway station, one minute from the Kawaramachi Sanjo bus stop, and about 15 minutes by taxi from the Karasuma exit of JR Kyoto Station.

The building holds 122 rooms, each with a wooden interior and under-bed storage. The Twin Room measures 20 square metres with two 200 by 120 centimetre beds. The Queen Room, at 16 square metres, has a single 200 by 160 centimetre bed suited to a couple or a solo traveller. The Superior Room, 27 square metres, sleeps up to three guests on three 200 by 120 centimetre beds and includes a communal table for groups travelling together. Bathrooms throughout have washlet toilets, and children aged six and under may share a bed at no extra charge within room capacity. Check-in uses a QR code at an automated kiosk, and the property is smoke-free.

OMO Cafe & Bar serves a one-plate breakfast between 7:00am and 10:00am, with a choice of Kyoto-style yuba and pickled vegetable dashi chazuke, a classic American breakfast, French toast or croque monsieur, each served with salad and yogurt. Staff run neighbourhood tours covering local history and culture, and host a 'Sanjo Wagashi & Coffee Night'. The building also holds a spa and massage service, an onsen, a public bath, a playroom, a pool and a meeting room available by reservation. Wi-Fi is free throughout, and pets are not permitted.
