Overview

Penha Longa Resort occupies a 14th-century monastery and chapel in the hills above Sintra, the only hotel sited inside the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. The historic buildings have been woven into a resort of 204 rooms, apartments and suites, renovated in 2024, each with large bathrooms, DIPTYQUE amenities and views over the park or the golf course.

Seven restaurants operate on site, including the Michelin-starred LAB by Sergi Arola and Midori, alongside Spices for Asian cuisine, Arola for tapas, the Italian-leaning Penha Longa Mercatto, B Lounge for afternoon tea and cocktails, and the seasonal poolside Aqua. Golf is central to the resort: the 27-hole course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., has hosted the Portuguese Open, and the grounds also hold a 9-hole Monastery Course.

The 1,500 square metre Penha Longa Spa, built around Zen principles and set in its own building near the monastery, works with Natura Bissé and includes an Oriental Garden, indoor and outdoor pools, an infinity pool and a jacuzzi. Families are looked after by the Penha Longa Kids programme for children up to 12, a Family Suite, and an in-room camping package for younger guests. Lisbon's historic centre, the beaches of Cascais and Estoril, and the palaces of Sintra are all within a short drive.
