Overview

The Beverly Hills Hotel opened on 12 May 1912, before the city of Beverly Hills itself existed, built for people scouting property in the area. Its original owner was Margaret Anderson. The building was first painted its signature pink in 1948, and the Martinique banana leaf wallpaper, created in 1942 and applied during Don Loper's 1949 renovation, has become one of the most recognisable patterns associated with the hotel. The Crescent Wing dates from 1949 and was designed by architect Paul R. Williams, who also reworked the Polo Lounge, the Fountain Coffee Room and the lobby. The property sits on Sunset Boulevard at 9641 Sunset Boulevard, in the 90210 zip code, a five-minute drive from Rodeo Drive.

Rooms and suites are split between the main house and individual bungalows. Main house categories range from the Superior Room at 37m² to suites such as the Rodeo Suite at 117m² and the Paul R. Williams Suite at 135m², the latter with a dining area, bar and patio. Garden and bungalow rooms are set among 12 acres of grounds, with room sizes running from the 44m² Bungalow Room up to the 52m² Bungalow Room with Patio. Named legendary bungalows include Bungalow 1, 3, 5, 8, 9 and 22. All rooms use Frette bed linen and marble bathrooms, and Wi-Fi is complimentary.

Dining centres on the Polo Lounge, open for breakfast, lunch, brunch and dinner, with a patio setting and a menu built around American cuisine with an Italian edge, including the long-running McCarthy salad, of which close to 600 are sold each week. The Fountain Coffee Room has served guests since 1949, and the Cabana Cafe offers casual dining by the pool. The pool itself is open to hotel guests daily from 7am to 10pm and is family-friendly, though children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The Beverly Hills Hotel Spa is on the Promenade level, open daily from 10am to 6pm, with treatment rooms, a duet suite, a nail suite and separate men's and women's locker facilities with steam showers. The gym operates 24 hours for hotel guests. The hotel is pet-friendly, permitting up to two house-trained dogs under 20kg for a $150 fee per stay, though cats are not accepted. Parking costs $70 per day, and group bookings apply from 10 rooms or more.
