Overview
The Residence Zanzibar sits on a mile-long beach in Kizimkazi, on Zanzibar Island off the coast of Tanzania, within 32 hectares of tropical gardens leading down to the Indian Ocean. The resort's 66 villas draw on the island's African, Omani and European heritage, each with a private pool 1.2 metres deep, a lounge deck furnished with wicker chairs and daybeds, and views over garden, beach or ocean. Bicycles are provided with each villa for exploring the grounds and nearby coast.
Villa categories range from the one-bedroom Luxury Garden Pool Villa and Luxury Ocean Front Pool Villa, both 155 square metres, through the 194-square-metre Prestige Ocean Front Pool Villa and the two-bedroom Frangipani villas at 234 square metres, up to the two-bedroom Presidential Pool Villa at 468 square metres. Dining runs to two restaurants: The Dining Room, serving international dishes with a note of local spice, and The Pavilion, drawing on Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cooking. An Earth Basket programme uses produce grown in the resort's own kitchen farms, and meals can also be taken privately, on the beach or poolside.
The spa occupies two hectares of its own gardens, with six treatment pavilions, a relaxation area, whirlpool, sauna and steam room, open from 10.30am to 7.30pm; the gym runs from 5am to 8pm. Beyond the grounds, the resort arranges excursions to Stone Town and Prison Island, spice plantation visits, walks in search of the Red Colobus Monkey, deep sea fishing and diving with dolphins.
