Imperial hotels in the capital, the hill stations above it and the road to Rajasthan.
Our notes
Delhi is where most Indian itineraries begin and it rewards two nights rather than one: Old Delhi and the Red Fort, Humayun's Tomb, and the Lutyens city where the grand hotels sit. Gurgaon has the newer business properties. Three hours into the hills, Shimla and the Himalayan foothills were where the Raj spent its summers and the old hotels are still there. From Delhi it is a short flight or a long day's drive to Agra and Rajasthan. Winter, October to March, is the season; May and June are punishing.
