Gili Islands

Three small islands off Lombok with no cars, turtles on the reef and a two and a half hour fast boat from Bali.

Our notes

The Gilis are three coral fringed islands a few kilometres off the north west tip of Lombok, and the appeal is what they lack: no cars, no motorbikes, no roads to speak of. Gili Trawangan is the largest and liveliest, Gili Air sits in the middle, and Gili Meno is the smallest and quietest, with the best beaches and the turtle population that draws people into the water at seven in the morning. Most guests pair the Gilis with Bali, either as the calm end of a fortnight or as a four night escape from Ubud or Seminyak. The fast boat from Padang Bai takes around two and a half hours; the speedboat from Lombok's Bangsal harbour takes fifteen minutes, and Lombok airport is a short domestic flight from Bali. We arrange whichever route suits the itinerary, and the harbour handling at both ends.
