Lodge · Sabi Sand, South Africa
A private concession inside Kruger National Park where guests hold sole traversing rights across 14,700 hectares (36,324 acres) of unfenced wilderness.
Ngala Safari Lodge sits on a private concession inside Kruger National Park, part of the Ngala Private Game Reserve. The lodge holds traversing rights across 14,700 hectares (36,324 acres) of unfenced land, with no other vehicles sharing the ground. Game drives run twice daily, and guests are accompanied by a dedicated guide and tracker rather than sharing sightings with other groups.
Accommodation is built around 20 thatched Cottages (48 square metres, sleeping up to two), three of which are configured as interleading Family Cottages (96 square metres, up to two adults and two children). A separate Family Villa (98 square metres, up to six guests) adds three ensuite bedrooms, a private pool and its own guide, tracker, butler and safari vehicle. For a single night away from the main lodge, the Ngala Treehouse offers an off-grid, four-level sleepout on the banks of the seasonal Timbavati Riverbed, with a kitchen, bathroom, indoor bedroom and open-air sleep platform, booked in conjunction with a lodge stay and taking up to two adults and two children aged 10 to 16.
Beyond game drives, activities include guided nature walks, a big game walking safari tracking larger wildlife on foot, and a rhino conservation experience in which guests can join a specialist team darting and notching a rhino for research and anti-poaching monitoring. Families are catered for with a WILDchild programme, and other options include a Shangaan village visit, a Wild Impact community visit to the neighbouring Welverdiend or Hlabekisa communities, Healing Earth spa treatments, scenic helicopter flights over the Blyde River Canyon, and safari weddings. The lodge was featured in the Condé Nast Traveller Readers' Choice Awards 2025 for Best Resorts in South Africa.
