Our notes
The private reserves along Kruger's western boundary, Sabi Sand above all, offer the most reliable big five viewing in Africa with off road driving that the national park does not permit. Lodges here are small and very good, with a ranger and tracker assigned to your vehicle for the stay. Malaria is a consideration; some reserves further south are malaria free and suit families with young children. We combine three or four nights on safari with Cape Town and the Winelands for a ten day South African trip that needs no internal connections beyond one flight.
