Lodge · Sabi Sand, South Africa
A six-cottage family villa in the Sabi Sand, built around a stone-walled homestead that was once the Bailes family's own farmhouse.
Castleton sits within the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, on land adjoining Kruger National Park, in an area known locally as Big Cat Country. Grassland runs out to a waterhole that draws wildlife through the day, and old trees shade the lawn as the seasons turn. Animals move across the property much as they always have.
A stone-walled homestead anchors the property, with six double en-suite cottages spread around it, close enough to feel connected but with room to retreat. Up to 12 guests can stay at once, making it suited to families and groups of friends travelling together. The feel is informal: time passes around the pool or the firepit, at long tables or on deep couches.
Private facilities include a Bocce court, a wine cellar, a tennis court and a country style kitchen. Wellness facilities run to a fitness centre, a yoga pavilion and treatment rooms for both double and single massage. An outdoor boma, open to the surrounding landscape, is used for dinners by firelight. Castleton was once the Bailes family's own farmhouse, before it became part of Singita's collection of lodges and private-use villas in South Africa.
