Overview
COMO Shambhala Estate occupies 22 acres of riverine forest just beyond the town of Ubud, a 90-minute drive from Denpasar's international airport. The grounds sit above the Ayung River and are aligned with four Balinese temples, on a site long used in local culture for water purification. A natural spring, known on the Estate as The Source, has supplied its wellness practice for over two decades.
Wellness here is organised in three ways: an all-inclusive, multi-night Wellness Path (six are offered, covering detox, fitness, mindfulness and Ayurveda among other goals), shorter add-on Wellness Programmes booked alongside a room, and standalone treatments at Ojas, the Estate's wellness centre. Ojas holds nine indoor treatment rooms and four outdoor pavilions with baths, an outdoor vitality pool for hydrotherapy, sauna and steam rooms, a Pilates studio, yoga bale, indoor gym and a 25-metre pool, alongside a cold plunge pool, contrast therapy with private ice bath and infrared sauna, a hyperbaric chamber and hydrotherapy colonic. Daily activities such as sunrise and full moon yoga, afternoon meditation and a stretch clinic are largely complimentary to guests, and resident practitioners include specialists in Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese medicine and Pilates.
Accommodation is arranged across Suites, Pool Villas and Residences, the latter multi-suite and designed, along with the standalone villas, to feel like a home within the forest. Architect Cheong Yew Kuan and interior designer Koichiro Ikebuchi used local stone, wood and traditional alang-alang roofing throughout. Dining runs to two venues: Kudus House, set in a 150-year-old Javanese house serving Indonesian breakfast and dinner menus, and glow, an all-day restaurant built around the COMO Shambhala Kitchen philosophy of raw, nutrient-dense food. Private dining can be arranged at a guest's Residence, at the Estate's Tea House, or on the bank of the Ayung River.
