Overview

Domaine de Fontenille occupies a 17th-century Provençal bastide at Lauris, in the Luberon, set within a ten-hectare park of umbrella pines, cedars and century-old plane trees. The property is family-run and belongs to Relais & Châteaux. It opened in 2016 as the first address of the Fontenille Collection, and the vineyard around it has been farmed since 1638.

The hotel has 25 rooms and suites, among them six added more recently within the historic bastide itself. Rooms favour natural tones, solid wood and fine parquet; the newer additions in the bastide pair light wood, linen, stone and ceramics with glass and metal. Most rooms look over the park. Categories range from the 35 square metre Executive rooms to the 72 square metre Suite Alphonse de Savornin.

The estate's vineyard, farmed organically, has been certified organic since 2016, and the restaurant, La Cuisine d'Amélie, draws on the Domaine's permaculture vegetable garden and on producers within 20 to 50 kilometres, among them a tomato grower in Lourmarin and an olive oil producer at La Bastide du Laval. There is a heated outdoor pool open from late April to October, treatment rooms using Susanne Kaufmann products, a pétanque court, and grounds that include a rose garden and signposted vineyard trails. The property holds the Green Key Label for sustainable tourism.
