Our notes
Provence is the France people imagine: hill villages, Roman ruins, plane tree shaded squares and markets that rotate through the week. The Luberon and the Alpilles have the best small hotels, many in converted bastides and mas with pools and kitchen gardens. Lavender flowers in late June and July, the vineyards turn in October, and the mistral clears the sky in between. We arrange a driver for the villages, tables at the restaurants in Les Baux and Saint-Rémy, and truffle hunting in winter for those who come off season.
