A 50-room Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Niseko Village, Hokkaido, with direct access to the Niseko United ski area and views of Mount Yotei.
Higashiyama Niseko Village, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, stands in Niseko Village on Japan's northern island of Hokkaido, within sight of Mount Yotei and Niseko Annupuri. The property holds 50 rooms and suites, each designed with a blend of classic and contemporary styling. Guests have direct access to the Niseko United ski area, which spans 2,191 acres of skiable terrain, including roughly 30 miles of groomed slopes, 70 runs and nearly 12 miles of backcountry skiing. In summer the same mountains open to hiking, cycling, horseback riding, tree trekking and zip-lining, with a team called the Higashiyama Reservists guiding both seasons' programmes.
Dining runs across three venues. Yukibana is an all-day restaurant overlooking Mount Yotei, serving international and Asian dishes built around a farm-to-table approach. Sushi Nagi presents omakase-style courses prepared by an itamae using local seafood and farm-sourced ingredients. Ume Lounge, finished in natural materials, serves cocktails, local beers and a selection of Japanese whisky by the fireplace. Spa Chasi La Sothys takes its name from the Ainu word for sanctuary and combines Japanese tradition with French technique, including treatments developed with Sothys and access to a private onsen alongside the resort's separate indoor and outdoor hot spring baths for men and women.
Two 18-hole golf courses sit near the resort for the green season: the Niseko Village Golf Course, a par-73 layout that won a 2019 World Golf Award, and the Niseko Golf Course, a par-72 design by Arnold Palmer known for its fifth hole. Families travelling with young children can use the Niseko Village Kids Club, which accepts ages 1.5 to 9. The nearest airport is New Chitose Airport in Sapporo, about 113.8 kilometres from the hotel; the property runs no shuttle of its own, though a reservation-only village bus operates between mid-May and the end of September.
