Overview

Zaborin is a ryokan of fifteen villas, set in a wood at Hanazono, within Niseko, Hokkaido. Each villa is an individual suite with its own private indoor and outdoor onsen, filled with free-flowing natural volcanic spring water drawn from beneath the property. The surrounding birch woods give each villa unobstructed views, and the ryokan sits apart from the main resort area of Niseko.

Villas are offered in two configurations. Washitsu villas are Japanese in style, with tatami mats and futons; yoshitsu villas offer a Western-style bed. Both include a mini bar, modern amenities, and the two private onsen baths, one indoor and one outdoor. Some villas add a further twelve square metre tatami room, useful for small families travelling together. Depending on the villa, views extend across Hanazono farm, Mt. Yotei, Annupuri or the Waisuhorn mountain range.

Dining follows Kita Kaiseki, a northern reading of the Kyoto kaiseki tradition, prepared by Hokkaido chef Yoshihiro Seno from local, seasonal produce. In the villas, guests are given samue and hanten to wear around the property, traditional ryokan dress, along with Western pyjamas for sleeping. Bathrooms carry Zaborin's own Hokkaido pine scented shampoo, conditioner and soap, and the minibar includes local whisky and Hokkaido juices alongside Nespresso machines and in-room tea.
