Overview

Quinta da Comporta sits among the rice fields of Carvalhal, on Portugal's Alentejo coast, and was designed by architect Miguel Câncio Martins as his first signature project in the country. The resort is arranged around a 40 metre solar-heated infinity pool overlooking the paddies, with two 800 square metre barn-like structures on either side of the Eira: one houses Oryza Spa, the other the Inari Comporta restaurant. Accommodation is split across Rooms & Suites, Townhouses and Pool Villas, each finished with wood, wicker, glass and stone and decor made by local artisans.

The four Pool Villas have three bedrooms, a private pool, a fireplace and an open kitchen, and measure around 300 square metres with space for six guests. Townhouses come as one or two bedroom units with their own kitchen and terrace, sized at approximately 73 and 113 square metres. Rooms & Suites range from the 36 square metre Deluxe Room to the 71 square metre Rooftop Suites, with the Rooftop Junior Suite, Junior Suites and Eira Rooms positioned between them, most looking over the infinity pool, the rice fields or the garden.

Food comes from Inari Comporta, where gastronomic consultant chef Vítor Sobral and Executive Chef Luís Espadana cook Portuguese dishes built around local, seasonal produce, much of it grown in the resort's own 1.5 acre Horta garden. Oryza Spa has six treatment rooms, a hammam, sauna and a heated indoor and outdoor pool, alongside a fitness centre with TechnoGym equipment and a Yoga Shala used for yoga, Pilates and meditation. The resort also runs seasonal wellness programmes and a calendar of retreats, and displays permanent artworks by Joana Vasconcelos, Vhils and André Saraiva around the property.
