Overview
Southern Ocean Lodge sits on the limestone clifftops of Kangaroo Island's south coast, centrally placed between Flinders Chase National Park and Seal Bay Conservation Park. Twenty-five suites follow the curve of the coastline, each with views over the Southern Ocean, and the Great Room's floor to ceiling windows frame the same water. The Baillie Pavilion, offered in three configurations, sits above the main suites at the top of the cliffs.
The lodge was rebuilt after the 2020 bushfires destroyed the original building, reopening in December 2023. Limestone floors and blackwood feature walls run through the new lodge, paired with custom-designed furnishings and commissioned works from South Australian artists. Children ten years and over are welcome; the Southern Spa, reached by a glass-walled aerobridge from the main building, is reserved for guests aged sixteen and over.
Dining draws on produce from Kangaroo Island and the wider South Australian food bowl, and the cellar offers a guided wine tasting most evenings. A signature itinerary of guided excursions, including visits to Seal Bay Conservation Park and Flinders Chase National Park, is designed daily and included in the tariff. Walking trails, from a short boardwalk to longer coastal circuits, start from the lodge's doorstep. In 2025 the lodge was awarded Two MICHELIN Keys.
