Camp · , Botswana
A two-bedroom suite on raised decking above Botswana's Selinda Reserve, facing the Zibadianja Lagoon where hippos and elephants pass most days.
The Dhow Suite at Zarafa stands on the private Selinda Reserve, where the Okavango Delta meets the Linyanti waterways in northern Botswana. It is a two-bedroom suite of 210 square metres, built on raised decking under canvas, a few minutes' walk from Zarafa Camp. Guests enter through a wooden Lamu door. The suite looks out over the Zibadianja Lagoon, the source of the Savuti Channel, where hippos and elephants are regular visitors.
Inside, two bedrooms flank a central lounge and dining area. The indoor bathroom has a copper claw-foot bath and both indoor and outdoor showers. Decking wraps around the whole unit, giving each bedroom a private veranda, and a plunge pool sits at the centre of the deck alongside a fire pit and outdoor seating. A stationary bicycle is kept on site, and binoculars and a professional camera with a choice of lenses are available for guests to use during their stay, with images and footage downloaded as a keepsake at the end of it. The suite is booked for sole use, with its own butler, chef, safari vehicle and wildlife guide.
The surrounding reserve holds leopards, lions, cheetahs, elephants, buffalo, red lechwe, zebra and giraffe, along with African wild dogs, roan and sable. An African skimmer colony nearby draws birdwatchers. Mornings and evenings are spent on open-vehicle photographic drives or guided walks, and the pontoon HES Zib takes guests out across the floating islands in front of camp, water levels allowing. Seasonal tag-and-release fishing is also offered, along with a sundowner cruise on the lagoon and a private dinner in the Zarafa wine cellar. A spa sits next to the suite, and treatments can also be taken in the room or on the pool deck, with an open-air gym nearby for those who want to train.
