Overview

The Retreat sits on the lava field outside Grindavík, on Iceland's Reykjanes peninsula. The hotel has 60 suites, a subterranean spa and a private lagoon fed from the same geothermal source as the Blue Lagoon. Guests staying at the hotel have unlimited access to both the Retreat Spa and the Retreat Lagoon for the length of their stay.

Six suite categories are named on site: the Lava junior suite, Moss junior suite, Lagoon view junior suite, Moss suite, Lagoon suite and the Blue Lagoon suite. The Lava junior suite measures 40 square metres and opens onto a private terrace facing the lava flows, with a European king bed, walk-in shower and free-standing bathtub, and furniture made by B&B Italia. The Lagoon suite and the Blue Lagoon suite each open directly onto private lagoon water; the Blue Lagoon suite is arranged over two levels with its own steam room and sauna.

The Retreat Spa covers 2,300 square metres beneath the lava field and includes eight experience areas: a steam cave, sauna, cold well, viewing platform, fireplace lounge and the Ritual Room, where the self-guided Blue Lagoon Ritual takes place. Moss Restaurant, its 40-seat dining room, holds a Michelin star; Lava Restaurant and the Spa Restaurant serve Icelandic dishes elsewhere on site. A stay includes daily breakfast, afternoon Icelandic coffee, morning yoga and Blue Lagoon Skin Science amenities in the suite. Access to the Retreat Spa and Retreat Lagoon carries a minimum age of 12; access to the Blue Lagoon itself, a short walk away, is open from age 2.
