Overview

The Zanji Suite sits within Tembo Plains Camp, tucked into riverine forest on the edge of the Zambezi River in the private Sapi Reserve, east of Mana Pools National Park. The two-bedroom suite comprises two rooms flanking a shared lounge, dining area and pool, designed for two couples or a family travelling together. Each bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe, double vanity basins, a toilet, a copper bath and an indoor shower, along with a writing desk. The name Zanji refers to the historic Persian term for the eastern African coastline used by medieval Muslim geographers and traders, a heritage the suite's design and naming acknowledge.

Guests have the use of a private, custom-built open safari vehicle designed for photography, with fold-down windscreens, raised roofs, photographic bars and multi-plug inverters. A private wildlife guide accompanies each stay. Wildlife viewing in the Sapi Reserve and neighbouring Mana Pools National Park, which together cover more than 337,000 hectares of protected wilderness, includes elephants, lions, leopards, hyenas, wild dogs, buffalo, eland and zebra, along with strong birdwatching. The reserve is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a core area of the middle-Zambezi biosphere reserve. The suite also offers the complimentary use of binoculars and a professional camera with a selection of lenses, with images and footage downloaded for guests at the end of their stay.

The Zanji Suite at Tembo Plains is a Relais & Châteaux member, the only Zimbabwean safari camp with that status. Activities mentioned for the area include watching lions known from National Geographic coverage, playing cricket on the banks of the lower Zambezi River, and canoeing the river with lunch on a sandbank.
